Art Gallery Committee

The Art Gallery Committee manages our beautiful gallery, arranging six two-month exhibits every year. Some of the finest artists in East Tennessee, western North Carolina, and northern Georgia have proudly shared their work with TVUUC members and the wider community. The exhibits are publicized in the local media, and the regularly scheduled artists’ receptions are festive affairs. Wine, soft drinks, and appetizers are served, and the artists give interesting talks about their work and answer questions.

Every 18 months or so the committee sends out a Call to Artists to area news media, university art programs, and local artists’ groups such as the Watercolor Society and the Tennessee Artists Association. Dozens of submissions are received, and committee members view and vote on the art while enjoying each other’s company and a potluck meal. Aside from this get-together, committee members gather to hang exhibits and host receptions but do not have regular “business meetings.” So much more fun this way! No artistic talent is required for committee membership—just an appreciation of art and a desire to beautify our church space.
