Personal Gardens

Spaces in this part of the garden are individual raised beds available for people to grow fruits and vegetables for their own use. There is a small annual fee to garden in these spaces.

Donation Gardens

Larger spaces on the hillside are available for individuals, friends, families and church groups to adopt. 100% of the harvest from these gardens is donated to those in need.

Garden Friends

People who are not able to maintain a garden space full-time can still participate. Help is always needed to plant, harvest and maintain the large area that the garden encompasses.

Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part

Valuing the process of life in a garden is just as important as enjoying the product. In gardening for those in need, and for ourselves, our goals include using intensive gardening techniques and organic gardening practices. Some of the gardening methods we use are: composting, rotating plants, mulching, using natural pest and disease management, planting cover crops, interplanting, planting heirloom varieties, saving seeds, using raised beds, vertical gardening, companion planting and succession planting.

Food for Those in NeedFresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables that we harvest from the TVUUC Community Garden are donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee to help feed those who are struggling with hunger. SecondHarvest provides food, services and education to address the nutritional needs of people at-risk of hunger in an eighteen county service area. In Knox County alone, more than 80,000 people are at-risk. Each month Second Harvest feeds an average of 158,000 people.

Shop GreenShop today!

The garden is partially funded by the GreenShop, an online store that sells earth-themed and peace products to people around the world. 100% of the profits from the store are donated to the Community Garden. Digital copies of designs, art and photographs, that TVUUC members and friends create, are donated for publication in the store. Here are just a few of the hundreds of products available.
