Performing Arts & Lecture Series (PALS)

This year’s Performing Arts and Lecture Series will appear in a much-scaled-down
version, with one major concert, the Marian Moffett Memorial, forming the
centerpiece. Instead of season tickets and a request for annual donors, we hope
to finance any musical performances with current funding, ticket sales, and/or
contributions at the time of the performance. However, if anyone wishes to make
a special gift to the performing arts at TVUUC, those will always be welcome. Please feel free to talk with our Music Director, Vicki Masters, if you have
any concert ideas.

Someone might wonder, “Why are these changes being made?” The simple answer is
that the cost of the series relative to the numbers of people attending does not
warrant the continued use of precious resources. A more complex answer would
point out that, when the series was begun, in 2000 , we served a special
function, of bringing unique groups to Knoxville and fulfilling a need for a
wider variety of performers, especially for a rather small venue such as our
church. Since that beginning, the Knoxville area music scene has vastly
improved, and on the evening of several recent PALS’ programs, there were many
programs competing for an audience.

As a church, we continue to support the arts in all its forms: music, visual,
dance, theater. And when the occasion arises, we hope to host special groups
that would be especially appropriate in our space.
